Greer City Council
Greer City Council acts as the legislative branch of the city government as well as its policy-making body. The council also looks to the city’s goals, major projects, and infrastructure improvements ranging from community growth to land use to finances and strategic planning.
Individual council members serve four-year terms and are elected by residents of the districts in which they live and represent. The exception is the mayor who is elected at-large (by all residents) to serve a four-year term. The mayor presides over Greer City Council meetings. Council members elect a mayor pro tempore to serve the mayor’s role in his or her absence.
The Municipal Clerk assists council in its work.

Elections
Registered voters in each of the city's six districts elect a councilman or councilwoman every four years to represent them -- unless there's the need for a special election.
Voters in all districts elect the mayor who serves a four-year term. Voters also elect Commissioners of Public Works , which, like the mayor, serve the city at-large.
City of Greer municipal elections are non-partisan. That means candidates do not declare affiliation with a political party when running for office.
Citizens may also vote on an issue of importance to the city through a referendum.

Mayor Rick Danner
Rick Danner may have started out as the mayor of a small town when he took office in 2000, but today, he leads one of South Carolina’s fastest-growing cities. Greer still has room to grow, and Mayor Danner has a vision for how to do it the right way. The mayor says becoming a “City of Choice” requires investing, planning, and making a concerted effort to meet the needs of Greer’s increasingly diverse community.
Municipal Clerk
The municipal clerk serves as the administrative liaison between the city council and mayor and ensures compliance with state law and city code. The city council appoints the municipal clerk who directs the preparation of the bi-monthly meeting agenda, attends all council meetings, certifies all council and mayoral actions, and ensures the accuracy of official documents.
The clerk's office maintains all city records and documents, including meeting minutes, resolutions, ordinances, agreements, contracts, board appointments, franchises, insurance policies, bonds, and property deeds. The municipal clerk also serves as secretary for the Municipal Election Commission and coordinates items for online auctions through GovDeals.
